Dear Teammates,

Recently, at a local restaurant, as our waitress came to serve our table, I remarked that she had an unusual name, according to her nametag, similar to a friend of mine. She [or it] replied that it was not really her name, but she chose it to better identify with how she felt. In our brief discussion, she stated she did not feel feminine or masculine, so she now identifies with a neutral part of nature, and this new name helps her identify with her feelings. It was a brief, quiet, and friendly discussion that disclosed a very insecure and uncertain woman who has been duped by society.

It is probably safe to say that in today’s culture, everyone has heard of and understands the meaning of transgender. It appears on television, is promoted on the internet, and is taught in many elementary school systems. “A third of teachers think students should learn that someone can be a boy or a girl even if that is different from the sex they were assigned at birth” stands in contrast to only “(14%) say students should learn that whether someone is a boy or a girl is determined by their sex at birth” [pewresearch.org]. This gap in curriculum is even greater when political parties are considered, as “Democratic teachers are far more likely than Republican teachers to say students should learn that a person’s gender can be different from the sex they were assigned at birth (53% vs. 5%) [ibid].

In case you are wondering, here is a lengthy explanation of transgender: Someone who is transgender identifies with a gender different from the one they were assigned at birth. For example, someone who identifies as a woman yet was assigned the gender of male at birth because of anatomy is a transgender woman. The term transgender also includes those who are non-binary: people who do not identify as solely male or female. Gender and biological sex refer to different things.

Gender is a constructed identity and behavior; masculinity and femininity, for example, are parts of gender identity. Biological or anatomical sex refers to the reproductive traits someone possesses. (study.com)

That definition is promoted among elementary school children by an author who published a book supposedly as a guide to understanding gender. He uses an image of a gingerbread man but changes the name to genderbread person. This illustrated book is designed to indoctrinate young children into accepting the homosexual and transgender lifestyles. You will find it in libraries being read to elementary students during reading time.

More recently, another book, the Gender Unicorn, continues this same theme and is targeting the children of elementary schools. This book teaches that

Biological sex is an ambiguous word that has no scale and no meaning besides that it is related to some sex characteristics. It is also harmful to trans people. Instead, we prefer ‘sex assigned at birth,’ which provides a more accurate description of what biological sex may be trying to communicate.  [heritage.org]

It is no wonder our waitress was so confused. A simple search of this subject reveals an enormous amount of literature, both written and digital, promoting the myth of trans people. A basic search on Walmart.com shows 48 books on gender identity awareness, varying in length and price, aimed at promoting that worldview with little regard for genuine science. There are also books on this site that endorse so-called gender-affirming surgeries or mutilation of children’s bodies to give them a different appearance and physical characteristics than when they were born.

The author of the Harry Potter series, J. K. Rowling, was viciously attacked by the trans movement because of her stance on the subject. As an author who appeals to impressionable youth, she was accused of being an uncaring transphobic when she was questioned about transgender surgeries. She stated, “We are watching one of the worst medical scandals in a century. Those that should have known better — the medics and those who have unquestionably cheered this on — are creating a climate in which those trying to raise red flags have been intimidated and silenced” [thetimes.com]. She called for greater and more open debate on the topic while holding a very liberal and leftist political position.

But there is good news. The fad, which it is, seems to be coming to an end. It is believed the trans movement is an offshoot of the homosexual movement of the 60’s and has received greater attention in recent years. But in October of last year, a British professor of politics and sociology, Eric Kaufman published his research, which simply says that the transgender movement is “in free fall among the young” [generationtechblog.com]. His research was based upon surveys taken from 2021 to 2024 and found that “Among 18- to 22-year-olds, trans identification was cut nearly in half from 2022 to 2024. Nonbinary identification dropped by more than half between 2023 and 2024” [ibid].

This aligns with a recommendation from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, which stated that “ASPS believes that plastic surgeons should adopt a posture of heightened caution, enhanced documentation, and explicit uncertainty disclosure, recognizing that their role is not simply technical but ethical” [tomwoods.com], as they urge extreme caution before any trans surgery. The American Medical Association also joined ASPS in a published report that said, “the AMA agrees with ASPS that surgical interventions in minors should be generally deferred to adulthood” [ibid]. After years of experimentation on American children, these leading medical groups are admitting, without explicitly saying so, that they made a mistake.

Of course, lawsuits from individuals seeking to reverse their surgeries may have influenced these decisions. Numerous reports detail people who have sued the medical community for mutilation and received millions of dollars in settlements. The Colson Center has accumulated hours of videos featuring counselors, theologians, and medical professionals on this topic and maintains a library of resources called the Identity Project, which can be found by searching for the name Identity Project TV [breakpoint.org]. Their goal is to demonstrate that “In a world deeply divided on identity, the Identity Project elevates the truth that identity is God-designed, not culture defined. It offers clear, biblical truth and hope to help” [identityproject.tv].

The foundation of the trans ideology is the false assertion that feelings dictate reality. This has led to extreme demands for society to accept subjective claims of reality. A trans worldview dismisses contradictory evidence, scientific facts, and opposing interests. If you disagree, you are often regarded as ignorant, uneducated, or worse than outdated. But finally, perhaps common sense and a Biblical perspective will prevail, and God’s people need to boldly stand for the truth.
